2014-2015 Academic Year

HOW WE ARE UTILISING OUR SPORTS PREMIUM MONEY AT WHEATFIELDS

Subscription to the Hunts Schools Sports Partnership provides us with the following:-

  • Providing Specialist Sports Coaches and PE Teachers from Hinchingbrooke School to work alongside Staff at Wheatfields to upskill teaching and support with curriculum planning and high quality teaching

Year 5 teaching staff benefited from curriculum support via a PE specialist in gymnastics. The teams planning, delivery and assessment improved because of the supported provided. Members of the team commented on the use of vocabulary given during the sessions and how they now use it to continue to develop the children within their classes.

Year 4 teaching staff benefited from curriculum support via a PE specialist in Athletics. The team learnt new activities to give to the children to ensure that progression during that lesson was achieved. Terminology and level of expectations were also taken on board to improve their own practice in the future.

  • Specialist Sports Coaches for extra curricular clubs, e.g. Tennis and Change for Life intervention group

Children participated in an after-school Hockey Club and Tri Golf club. Children responded well to an alternative sport to participate in after school.

  • PE Teacher from HSSP to lead Problem Solving, Multi Skills and Athletics during curriculum time

Year 4 benefited from the team building/problem solving morning as the children within that cohort were identified as requiring support in this area. The morning provided the teaching team with activities and challenges that benefited their own professional development which enabled them to carry on the lessons learnt during the morning for the remainder of the year.

  • Loan of Specialist Sporting Equipment not usually available in Primary Schools

  • External Training Courses for Teaching and Support Staff led by recognised National Sporting Coaches

PE coordinator attended PE conference day which resulted in the collection of new legislation/curriculum guidelines/resources/planning ideas/networking opportunities.

Members of staff attended a Swimming course to learn new teaching techniques and to renew their confidence in teaching the subject.

  • Bikeability (road cycling proficiency) – Safer cycling for years 3, 4 & 5 pupils (Summer Term)

Year 3 & 4 participated in the first stage of their cycling proficiency. The children were taught how to look after/maintain their own bikes and then were asked to complete certain activities to improve their cycling confidence. The children revelled in the experience.

  • Links to Schools within our cluster group and beyond to establish competitive sporting activities

  • Taking part in Cambridgeshire Cross Country Championships (to be held at Priory Park, St Neots)

School PE target achieved in addressing the lack of inter-school competitions. Children participating did remarkably well and enjoyed the experience.

  • The provision of seminars relating to current legislation and the promotion of best practice

In addition to the above, we have also subscribed to The Academy of Sports Development which will provide us with the following:-

  •  Specific Specialist Coaches in the following areas in curriculum time:-
