2015-2016 Academic Year

HOW WE ARE UTILISING OUR SPORTS PREMIUM MONEY AT WHEATFIELDS

Subscription to the Hunts Schools Sports Partnership provides us with the following:-

  • The provision of seminars relating to current legislation and the promotion of best practice

  • Providing Specialist Sports Coaches and PE Teachers from Hinchingbrooke School to work alongside Staff at Wheatfields to upskill teaching and support with curriculum planning and high quality teaching
  • Specialist Sports Coaches for extra-curricular clubs, e.g. Tennis, multi-skills, Hockey, Tag-Rugby
  • PE Teacher from HSSP to lead team building workshop for KS2 class
  • Loan of Specialist Sporting Equipment not usually available in Primary Schools
  • External Training Courses for Teaching and Support Staff led by recognised National Sporting Coaches
  • Bikeability (road cycling proficiency) – Safer cycling qualification for Year 6 pupils
  • Links to Schools within our cluster group and beyond to establish competitive sporting activities
  • Introduction of pupil school leadership programme. HSSP PE teacher to oversee/initiate programme aimed at Year 5 pupils to assist in PE lessons/lead break time activities in KS1 & KS2
  • Staff twilight Dance session to assist with planning differentiation

Staff teachers were up-skilled in a number of different disciplines within the subject.  Staff were given lesson plans that were differentiated and adapted in order to meet individual year group's topics.  Staff were also given opportunities to evaluate the planning after the lesson and an hour before the following week's lesson.  Feedback forms indicated that staff became more confident in subject areas as well as feeling supported in their own professional development.

  • Entry into County competitions:-

    • Tag Rugby

    • High 5's Netball
    • Gymnastics
    • Tennis

Children participated in all of these events, excluding the tennis competition.  Children were encouraged to be ambassadors for the school and participated in each event with great levels of determination, sportsmanship and commitment.

In addition to the above, we have also subscribed to Next Generation Sports which will provide us with the following:-

  • Specific Specialist Coaches in the following areas in curriculum time:-
    • Tag Rugby (Autumn)

    • Tennis (Spring)

    • Athletics (Summer)

  • After School Clubs will include:
    • Football (Autumn)

    • Indoor Tennis (Spring)

    • Football (Summer)

Year 6 children participated in different sports in addition to the curriculum, exposing them to sports/disciplines they would not normally be exposed to.

We have paid affiliation fees to the Huntingdonshire Football Association in order to become eligible to participate in:

  • ‘A’ County Football Tournament

  • ‘B’ County Football Tournament

  • Year 6 County Cup competition.

  • Year 5 County Cup competition.

Children participated in these events across different schools and venues.  They had the opportunity to visit these schools and act as ambassadors for Wheatfields.

The school has used the funds provided by the Sports premium to cover supply costs for PE activities:

  • Tag Rugby County competition (Autumn)

  • ‘A’ & ‘B’ County Football Tournaments (Autumn)

  • PE courses

  • Change4life club

PE equipment to enable staff to deliver differentiated lessons:

  • Gymnastic spring board

  • Football goal nets

  • Assortment of Multi-Skills balls

With this funding the school was able to provide provision to support these teams in the different competitions, as well as providing new equipment and paying for LSA support in extra-curricular activities.
