TAG RUGBY SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT

HUNTINGDONSHIRE SCHOOL SPORTS PARTNERSHIP TAG RUGBY - SCHOOLS 'A' TEAM TOURNAMENT
HUNTINGDON STAGS RUGBY GROUND

After 3 weeks of training with Mr Mills and Mr Mulqueen, on 18 October 2016, Wheatfields took a small squad of 11 players to attend the HSSP Tag Rugby Schools 'A' Team Tournament.

Hopes were high amongst the boys and girls from Year 6 and they got off to a fantastic start against Bury Primary School, winning by a comfortable margin!  Next was a more daunting task; a match against Priory School from St Neots.  Wheatfields were initially blown away by the speed of the Priory players, but fought back in the latter stages of the game.  Unfortunately it was too late and the team went on to lose.  Nevertheless, the next fixture came quickly around and Wheatfields were pitted against a strong side from Houghton.  After a terrific game of tag rugby, we came out on top for our second victory of the tournament!

Next, the boys and girls had to face a strong team from Thongsley Fields.  They were extraordinarily unlucky not to get a win in this game, drawing 4-4 with the team from Huntingdon after having 4 tries disallowed!  After this game the team had a short break before playing Godmanchester.  In what was a very tight game, the Wheatfields team ended up losing narrowly, which resulted in them playing Thorndown in the play-off for 7th or 8th position overall.

After a nail biting encounter with our local rival, Wheatfields ended up losing, despite some excellent individual efforts, which resulted in the team finishing 8th overall out of 13 teams.  Mr Mills was extremely proud of how all the players performed on the day and the excellent sportsmanship behavior demonstrated by the team.

WELL DONE TO ALL!!
