I joined the Governing Body in November 2025 and was appointed Chair in December 2025. Having previously served as a governor, I have first-hand experience of the significant contribution that effective governance makes to schools and the positive impact it has on children, staff, and the wider community. As a former primary school teacher and early years leader, I am deeply committed to education and to ensuring that children receive the highest quality school experience from the very beginning of their learning journey. I currently work for Cambridgeshire County Council as an Early Years Improvement Adviser, a role in which I support early years settings to raise standards, strengthen leadership, and improve outcomes for young children.

I’ve been a parent at the school since 2021 and joined the Governing Body as a Parent Governor in 2024. I have two children in the primary school and one in preschool and felt I was in a good position to offer a broad view across the school. I currently run my own business offering administrative services to small businesses and felt the skills I’ve learnt along the way could help support the school to offer children the best possible experience at Wheatfields, both academically and socially. I have very fond memories of being a Wheatfields’ pupil and am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the school and local community in this role.

I joined Wheatfields as a governor in November 2024, bringing with me a background in education with a particular focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and behaviour. I have experience as a primary school teacher and have also worked within the Local Authority’s SEND and School Improvement Teams. My motivation for becoming a governor is rooted in a strong commitment to supporting all pupils, especially those with additional learning needs, to feel fully included in the school community and to gain skills that will support them throughout their lives.

I am a co-opted governor at Wheatfields, bringing a strong background in both education and data analysis. As a maths teacher, I have a broad range of experience across primary and secondary education, including both mainstream and SEND settings. Before entering the teaching profession, I worked as a statistician and I continue to apply those analytical skills to support strategic decision-making. I am passionate about contributing to the school community to help ensure that every child receives the best possible education.

I am married with 4 children; 2 girls and 2 boys, all of whom attended Wheatfields School, along with 4 of my grandchildren. I have recently retired as a registered childminder after 35 years of working with children, ages ranging from 7 weeks to 12 years. In all my years of working with children I have developed a strong connection to Wheatfields. This also led to my volunteering in EYFS for the last 2 years. Having worked with children for so many years I feel that I have amassed a range of knowledge and skills to support my role as a govenor. I am passionate about ensuring that every child receives the best possible start to their education.

I started as a Parent Governor at Wheatfields Primary School in April 2024. My daughter is in Key Stage 2 and I am passionate about making a positive impact on her education, knowing the importance of establishing firm foundations for all our children's future. I am looking forward to supporting the school: children, teachers and senior leaders, to create an environment where children thrive and develop a love of learning. Memories for our primary school days last a lifetime. Aside to this, in my career outside of school I work as a Senior Manager in the Automotive Industry, which has given me great experience in leadership, communication and relationship building amongst other things. Skills that I hope will help benefit the staff and children moving forward.

As a staff member at Wheatfields for the past six years, I feel that it is vital that a voice from working members of staff is heard on the governing body.

I have been in education, in various roles, for over 24 years and have seen much change. I want to ensure that the one thing that doesn’t change is that the children are at the centre of every decision that is made. It is also vital, however, that the wellbeing of all staff is considered in every decision too.

As SEMH lead for the school, I aim to safeguard and promote children’s wellbeing and mental health: supporting both the child and their families by offering advice and signposting where appropriate.

My name is Emma Verney-Davies and I am Headteacher of Wheatfields Primary School. As Headteacher, I sit on every committee. I am responsible for the operational, day to day running of the school and the Governing Body support me in the strategic development of the school.
