Music

All pupils at Wheatfields have the opportunity to participate in some form of musical activity.  They will be able to explore rhythm, pitch, dynamics, duration, timbre, structure, etc using a variety of musical instruments.

Recorder instruction is available to children from Year 3 upwards.  In addition, children have the opportunity to learn keyboard, ukulele, djembe drum and samba drumming as well as classroom pitched and non-pitched instruments.  The children use music to enhance their curriculum topics such as creating sound effects for stories, Egyptian music and The Planets.  We enjoy composing our own music e.g writing our own African drumming polyrhythms, composing our own 12 Bar Blue songs and creating our own STOMP rhythm routines.

Singing is an important part of everyday life at Wheatfields; we love to sing and are proud to have achieved our National Singup Platinum Award!

We have a choir which is open to all children in Keystage 2 and 'The Wednesday Boys' which is an auditioned singing group for boys from Years 5 and 6.  The Singing Starz frequently perform at the O2 Arena as part of the Young Voices programme and both singing groups have performed at other ventures such as the Christmas Lights switch-on in St Ives and with the St Ives Choral Society at The Free Church.

We are also proud to have a band which rehearses weekly and is part of our organised Clubs at Wheatfields.

We can offer individual tuition in violin, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums, piano, ukulele and guitar!
